ATM Safety

Your bank cares about your safety. In spite of your bank's best efforts, someone may want to take advantage of you. You should take every opportunity to enhance your personal safety by taking simple precautions when using an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

• Plan your activities so it will not be necessary to use an ATM after dark or in an isolated area.
• If possible, use an ATM located inside a supermarket or other place of business.
• At a banking office, use a drive-up ATM whenever possible so you may remain in the relative safety of your automobile.
• Drive around the banking office to identify any suspicious persons or activities in the area. Leave the area immediately if you see something suspicious.
• Have your ATM card and transaction documents out of your pocket when you approach the ATM.
• Make sure all of your car doors are locked and all windows, other than the driver's window, are rolled up.
• Keep the engine running and be prepared to leave the area immediately.
• Don't become so preoccupied with making your ATM transaction that you fail to keep track of what is happening nearby.
• After your transaction is completed, roll up the driver's window and leave the ATM immediately. Do not take time to put the money and receipts in your wallet until you are safely away from the ATM.
• Do not give your personal identification number (PIN) to anyone for any reason.
